The Gaia Tree Experience
Into the jungle…
We meet in the center of Iquitos just 15 minutes from the airport. From there we take you on a short drive to a boat waiting to take you away from the city and deeper into the Amazon jungle.
We love to give our guests a real experience of the Amazon rainforest so that you can have a deeper connection with nature far away from all the noise and distractions of the city. Being completely surrounded by the beauty and majesty of the Amazon rainforest is healing in itself.
Many retreat centers in Iquitos are close to the city or next to villages where there is loud music in the evenings – especially at weekends. The last thing we want is for your ayahuasca ceremonies to be distracted by the local disco! There’s no chance of that at Gaia Tree!
Small groups and a family like atmosphere
A common concern is overly large group sizes and a lack of personal support when you most need it.
This is not something you need to worry about at Gaia Tree. While some retreat centers like to pack as many guests in as they can (even the more expensive retreats), at Gaia Tree we like to create a more intimate and family vibe. Our group sizes are limited to 12 as we’ve found this is the perfect size, so you can mingle and have deep intimate connections with your soul family and still have plenty of space to be with yourself as you choose.
Compassionate and Experienced Facilitators
If you read through our extensive number of 5 star reviews, one of the things that gets repeated over and over is the great support.
Working with ayahuasca, particularly if it’s your first time, can be challenging, sometimes confusing (for awhile) and will naturally take you to emotional and vulnerable spaces. It’s incredibly important that you have experienced and compassionate facilitators to support you through the process.
We don’t want to alarm you – we’ve had people come to us for help after having a traumatic experience with facilitators at one of the most expensive centers in Iquitos. Money definitely doesn’t guarantee humanity or a quality experience – esp when you’re in a room with 20+ others.

Powerful and Authentic Native Shamans
Read any online Ayahuasca discussion forum and you’ll probably come across all kinds of horror stories about dodgy shamans. Some are complete frauds, some use black magic and worst of all, some of them abuse the people who come to them for healing. You’d be right to be conscious of integrity of the people who lead you in your ayahuasca ceremony.
We know that working with quality shamans is essential for our guests so all our healers are carefully vetted, we know they are authentic, genuine, powerful and humble healers – we will only ever work with medicine people of the highest integrity.
Our shamans offer a wealth of experience felt through their powerful, deeply grounded healing practice. They have all been working with the medicine for many years going to the root of issues. They provide a heartfelt care during the retreat, both inside and outside ceremony.
The shamans assist you personally to understand your particular needs, they are spiritual doctors working in the physical and spiritual realms. They are deeply respectful in their way of connecting to and sharing the medicine – the dietas they have completed follow a long held ancestral path. They perform sublime ceremonies, guiding and supporting with strength, love and humility.
7 & 10 Day Ayahuasca Retreats for Deeper Healing and Growth
How many ayahuasca ceremonies do you need?
There is no correct answer. Everyone is different and a lot depends on how serious your condition is. A minority of people dealing with really deep and serious issues will certainly benefit from a healing retreat that lasts several weeks and includes at least 10 ceremonies.
However, in our extensive experience we’ve found that the vast majority of people get the most benefit from between 4 and 6 ceremonies.
For most people, the first one to three ceremonies are all about purging and cleansing. Often people don’t receive deep insights or visions in the first couple of ceremonies but they get deeply cleansed of negative energies and blockages. Usually it’s between the third and fifth ceremony where people go really deep with the medicine and start receiving the visions and insights they came for.
We want all our guests to get what they came for. While we can never guarantee anything in this respect, we find that by offering several retreat formats, it gives the opportunity to choose how deep you want to go with the medicine.
You do not have to take part in all ceremonies. We never put pressure on people and if you feel the need to sit out of one or two ceremonies then you’re welcome to – you’ll still participate fully in the rest of the retreat.
Exceptional Integration Support
Integration is one of the most important and often overlooked parts of the ayahuasca process. Sometimes ayahuasca ceremonies can feel overwhelming and even confusing at times. Or sometimes you may have great insights that are quickly forgotten. The last thing anyone wants is to go home in a more confused state than when they arrived and this is where integration helps.
While not everyone needs it, many people greatly benefit from integration support which seems to be lacking at many centers particularly when large groups are involved.
We provide two forms of integration. There’s the integration support you receive during the retreat and then there’s post retreat integration for those who need it.
During the retreat we hold five powerfully held sharing circles (one after each ceremony, the next morning). Virtually all our guests love these sharing circles and many report that often they are just as benefical as the ceremonies themselves. These circles also allow deep intimacy and trust to build quickly between the group members. However, it’s important to note that nobody is forced to share anything. Although we encourage openness, you’re welcome to be as private as you like.
On the last day of the retreat you will be provided with some powerful strategies to help with post retreat integration but if anyone needs additional help then we are always here for you. We care deeply about all our guests and we don’t want anyone to feel stranded.
Simple, quality jungle accommodation
When it comes to accommodation everyone has different needs. If you will accept nothing less than a luxury five star experience then Gaia Tree is not the right place for you. Likewise, if you want the most rustic experience possible, sleeping in rotting jungle shacks infested with a whole manner of creepy crawlies, then we’re not right for you either.
We’ve found a quality space with our lodge accommodation. Simple, secure rooms with a high level of comfort with beautiful views of the surrounding jungle – well protected from bugs and other jungle life.
Your accommodation will be in a typical lodge setting looking into the jungle, where you can sometimes see the animals feeding in the morning. You’ll be in a large jungle cabin room sharing with up to 3 others, each guest will have their own double bed. The cabin is partitioned so that you will still have total privacy with fabulous views of the surrounding rainforest and overlooking the river. See our facilities page for more info and photos. This makes an ideal setting whether you’re a solo participant or coming with friends.
La Dieta and Food
We provide delicious meals – mostly vegetarian and vegan which include salads, vegetable stews, quinoa, rice and some fish – all meals are provided. We offer a healthier and more varied diet than most centers. We understand the necessity of dieta in this process so we’ve create meals which aren’t unnecessarily bland. We fully accomodate special dietary requirements including vegetarians and vegans.
Our Ayahuasca
The ayahuasca we share is among the best you will find. The energy and intention of the ayahusquero cooking the medicine is known to significantly affect the journey, so we’re sure to take care. We only use clean, well sourced plants in our medicine brews, some maestroes are known to use ad-mixtures to trigger stronger visions – we absolutely will not use these plants as the side effects can be extremely dangerous and disorientating for the individual.

Some centers hold ceremonies with groups of 25-40 participants, our focus is on deep personal work with smaller groups – allowing the shaman to work in a way closely aligned with their ancestral path and a deep intimacy is created.
Our center is free from distractions, minimal use of electrical devices, there no internet or telephone signal – so you’ll be able to direct all your energy into your process with ayahuasca and really enjoy the space in the jungle.
