Secondo and Belmira are beautiful people and very good Shamans. You won’t be able to miss their grounded and strong spirit. ” – Jana Bene
The Ayahuasca Ceremonies
During the week we will be hosting 5 Ayahuasca ceremonies. The Ayahuasca medicine is a sacred plant brew that has been used by indigenous Amazonian cultures for thousands of years – primarily for healing, divination and spiritual awakening.
Working with Ayahuasca is an intense, profound, and often a highly transformative experience that can facilitate deep healing on all levels of your being – physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. Ayahuasca is a doorway to inner worlds that allows us access to higher states of consciousness and the experience of spiritual awakening. To many people it reveals the multi-dimensional nature of reality and ourselves and it leads us back to who we truly are.
We are proud to be working with indigenous Shipibo shaman Segundo Pangoza Chani and his wife Belmira Chavez Fernandez, both powerful healers in their own right. Segundo is 59 years old and has been working with the medicine for over 40 years, since he was 16.
The Shipibo tradition is known as the best preserved and profound of the indigenous cultures that use Ayahuasca, hence their reputation as masters of Ayahausca among the indigenous people of the Amazon.
Segundo and Belmira assist you personally to understand your particular needs, they are spiritual doctors working in the physical and spiritual realms. Practicing traditional Shipibo methods, they are deeply respectful in their way of connecting to and sharing the medicine – the dietas they have completed follow a long held ancestral path. They perform sublime ceremonies, guiding and supporting with strength, love and humility.
“I’m grateful to Gaia Tree for providing me just what I was looking for, it was important for me to drink Ayahuasca in a safe and loving environment and I wanted to be immersed in the jungle away from the madness of the outside world. And as an added bonus, I was hoping to connect with like minded folk from around the world and I surely wasn’t disappointed on any counts. ” – Nancy, Canada
Detoxing, Purging & Cleansing
Purging and cleansing play a fundamental role in Amazonian shamanic healing traditions. Ayahuasca is an effective medicine because it is purgative meaning that it usually (but not always) causes you to purge or vomit during the experience. The unique thing about ayahuasca is that you’re not only purging on a physical layer, you’re also releasing unhealthy mental and emotional energies that you may have been carrying. Usually they are related to difficult experiences in your life such as emotional wounds, abuse, relationship difficulties and depression.
Our hope is that by the end of the retreat you will feel like a new person, fully cleansed of most of the negative and harmful toxins in your body, be they physical or emotional toxins.
Who Should Attend
Before registering we ask that you check-in with yourself about your intention in working with ayahuasca, and more importantly, going deeper into yourself. Please be aware that working with ayahuasca is a challenging process for most people. This is an intense retreat and it is not aimed at people who are simply looking for a new experience or to check something off their bucket list.
Our center is rustic and there are no luxuries, if you want luxury then we’d recommend somewhere like ‘Blue Morpho’. If you enjoy the simple pleasures of life and being deeply connected with ancient healers in their natural environment then this retreat is ideal for you.
We’ve seen from our own experience over the years that working with individuals significantly aids the personal journey, therefore we limit the group size to ensure you have the personal care and attention you need from our shamans and facilitators. Many centers hold ceremonies with groups of 25-30 participants, our focus is to provide for smaller groups – allowing the shaman to work in a way closely aligned with their ancestral path.
We provide a traditional setting for connecting with Mother Ayahuasca along with offering ways to integrate the experience for real transformation. Many of our guests have commented in the past that there is a family environment at Gaia Tree. If you like the idea of connecting with a small group of like-hearted souls on this profound journey then this retreat is for you and we look forward to welcoming you to our Gaia family.
“I am SO glad I chose Gaiatree for my traditional healing ceremonies. Having two shamans gave us a balanced feminine/masculine energy mix and twice as long exposure to their powerful sound ceremonies. Since they are husband and wife their energies are infused with love. The simplicity of the tambo and grounds suited me, I love the deep nature connection and ‘roughing ‘ it. Our guides were caring, considerate, attentive and inclusive. I felt totally safe and protected. ” – Annie S.
Each guest will stay in a single occupancy tambo (jungle hut), a standard type of accommodation here in the Amazon rainforest. Simple and rustic, the tambos are comfortable, safe, protected by mosquito netting, and with great views of the jungle. There is no better way to immerse yourself in mother nature, surrounded by the sights and sounds of the rich Amazonian jungle – you may not want to leave!
Each tambo also has its own private toilet. We don’t have any shared tambos, but if you are coming on the retreat with a friend or partner then we can accommodate you close to each other. You are also welcome to sleep in the maloka after ceremony and many people like to.
Food at Gaia Tree & Dietary Restrictions
All meals are provided at Gaia Tree, we offer a healthier and more varied diet than is offered by most centers. Also we\re slightly less strict with our diet and food may contain tiny amounts of salt as well as small amounts of garlic and ginger.
We provide delicious meals which include Salads, vegetable stews, quinoa, rice and some chicken and fish.
Our diet includes the following foods:
Chicken & Fish
Rice & Quinoa
Various Vegetables & Potatoes
Herbal Teas & Fruit juice
Foods that are excluded from the dieta:
Red meat or Pork
Coffee or Caffeinated Drinks
The ayahuasca we share is among the best you will find, our shaman prepares the medicine in a ceremony following traditional Shipibo rituals. The ayahuasca vine in the area around Pucallpa where he is from, is widely regarded as being consistently stronger than others around Iquitos. The energy and intention of the ayahusquero cooking the medicine is known to significantly affect the journey, hence our shaman personally cooks the ayahusaca used in our ceremonies. We also only use ayahuascca, chacruna and mapacho in our medicine brews, some maestroes are known to use Toe (datura) to trigger stronger visions – we absolutely will not use these plants as the side effects can be extremely dangerous and disorientating for the individual.
We’re happy to assure the integrity, quality and source of our Ayahuasca brew.
“This is the place for you who are looking for simplicity, silence and lots of space for body, mind and soul. Nothing that distracts you except your own mind 🙂 The people working there to create the best experience for you are generous, kind, full of laughter and very present. You feel very safe and very good taken care of and there is always someone to talk to and share your thoughts with. A very allowing and joyful atmosphere.” – Carina
All transport is provided between Iquitos and Gaiatree. The journey takes about 1 hour 30 minutes from the center of Iquitos by private mini-bus.
You are responsible for getting yourself to and from Iquitos. We recommend that you arrive in Iquitos at least 24 hours before the retreat starts to give yourself time to prepare, relax and overcome jet lag if you’re likely to have any.
If you’d like to fly out of Iquitos on the same day the retreat ends then we can drop you off at the airport on the way back to Iquitos. Please don’t book your flight before 11am.
